you could put this in the wiki then it wouldn't get lost in subsequent postings

Hi,

just a suggestion.. With LXF 70, I've started using successfully Debian.. For a techie, what a pleasure it is.. You learn every day about the system.., But let's be honest, it can sometimes be a pain in the neck.. Fortunately, a lot of help is at hand on the web, but it's not that easy to find.. So you could create a new forum, named Linux (2 cents) tips , where everyone could share all the tips they find every day to make their distro even more friendly, or performing, or whatever enhancement...

Let's start with this one :

You'd like to be able to read all the video formats on your Linux Debian Sarge box, but don't have a clue where to start.. Ok, start synaptic (Alt+F2 and enter synaptic), type in the root password, go to the Settings menu, and select Repositories, click the New button and type in :

URI : http://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/
Distribution : debian
Section(s) : sarge

click OK, and then reload the package information (Ctrl+R or click the Reload icon).. Now browse the available packages, find and select mplayer-586, realplayer, libdvdcss2 and w32codecs, click apply.. You now can : listen to the BBC, read DVDs, read WMV, AVI ...

Have fun !
