Turns out that the VGA splitter didn't support 1440x900 (even though it says it's fine with higher resolutions and below).  I realised it wasn't a driver issue when I had the same issues with Windows.</description>

                                      Resurrecting this topic.  Now KDE is having the issue.  Even a reinstall (including the /home partition) will only give me 1360 x 768 instead of 1440 x 900 (as it used to be).  Everything looks stretched.                                       Booting into KDE solves it.  The driver is even set to the nVidia proprietary one.   &lt;img src=&quot;images/smiles/icon_confused.gif&quot; alt=&quot;Confused&quot; border=&quot;0&quot; /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;

Looks like it's just MATE.  Although it was working fine this morning...</description>

                                      Help!  My resolution won't switch back to 1440x900 (default).  When I try and switch it back, my monitor just displays a notice that it has no signal!&lt;br /&gt;

This doesn't appear to do anything:&lt;br /&gt;
