Hi

I have a perfection v300 photo on ubuntu 12.04. Epson do a scanner driver for linux but it comes in 3 parts and if you miss off any one then you won't connect to the scanner.

have a look here:
http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/search/01/search/searchModule

for my scanner I needed the iscan core driver and data package and also an esci driver.

good luck

I always get this on a new install.

Code:

/usr/share/sane/gt68xx/ and add SBSfw.usb as root has always fixed it for me.

I have SBSfw.usb in my home dir and will forward it if you wish.

YDavid

thanks for your reply DavidMcCrossan i have checked my file system and i do have /usr/share/sane/gt68xx/ but i i do not have the sbsfw.usb folder do i add it as a sub folder into gt68xx ? or a folder along side the gt68xx
thanks again for your reply .

You can get the SBSfw.usb file from here :-

http://www.meier-geinitz.de/sane/gt68xx-backend/

Your Epson scanner is not mentioned, but some others (eg the Mustek ScanExpress 1248 UB use it). Why do we think this is the correct firmware for the Epson anyway?

And BTW, SBSfw.usb is a file, not a folder. It is the volatile firmware for certain scanners that has to be reloaded every time they are used. And be careful about the capitalisation - this isn't Windows!

However, before this firmware action, Sane needs to be able to find the scanner, in other words, you should get a result from "sane-find-scanner", which has no spaces in it BTW.

Next thing, you can get my email address from my profile; mail me and I will send you the file, You must go to the gt86xx/ dir and add the file and then it should work.

Could it be that you are missing a file?
I always get this on a new install.

Code:

/usr/share/sane/gt68xx/ and add SBSfw.usb as root has always fixed it for me.

I have SBSfw.usb in my home dir and will forward it if you wish.

Best

i have been trying to get my epson 3170 perfection scanner to work on linux i say linux in general as i have tried all the versions of ubuntu from 8.04 to present day , linux mint 9,11,12 , on my netbook with easy peasy & unbutu remix .
i have tried simple scan , xscan , iscan in fact been through all the scan software in the repos .
at the moment i have now got ubuntu 10.04 lts on my machine , i have installed the drivers from the avasys site time and time again , i have even tried to get answers from our local lug group ,without success.
all i get is scanner not detected
if i run lsusb the scanner appears on the list so the pc is seeing it ,
even if i run in terminal i get no scanner detected .
i have run sane -find -scanner with the same result
any ideas would be welcome
thanks
