The future for me may not be Ubuntu, may be an off shoot like Mint 12 or Pinguy. Apart from the I don't like the new layout I'm feed up of each new kernel update for 10.04 LTS breaking the sound on my Laptop.

actually, it is really easy.

Run a program, and its Icon will appear in the launcher.
Right click on the icon and select "keep in launcher"
Job done.

To remove a program, right click on its icon and untick "keep in launcher"

Well all seems fine. Upgraded and all appears to be working.

Just got to search how to add & remove items to and from the launcher. I guess it can't be done

Could just be a 3D issue as I currently run 11.04 in 2D Unity . Can I still run 2D in 11.10?

ohh...

Just went to upgrade:

"your graphics hardware may not be fully supported in 11.10. The support in Ubuntu 11.10 for your Intel graphics hardware is limited and you may encounter problems after the upgrade. Do you want to continue with the upgrade?

Looks like I will be staying with 11.04 So much for Linux supporting older hardware

Thanks for the reply.

Just done a back up so will upgrade to 11.10 later.

I might even try Mint 12 as on the cover of the latest Linux Format mag has a disc with it on and it says "Linux Mint 12....Mint is like Ubuntu used to be, but better"

11.10 has a much better version of Unity.
A lot of people will tell you to do a fresh install, however I have always done in-place upgrades on all of my PCs.
The only time I have had any problems is when I moved from 10.10 to 11.10 on Mythbuntu, so it seems that skipping a release is not such a good idea.
Whatever you do , make sure any important stuff is backed up.
