Hi LeeNukes...

This is not really about Adobe per se but the dictatorial
attitude of Apple. As Rhakios has said it is all the little
guys who have spent money on SDKs and IDEs that will
be no longer allowed.

I`m not sure how it is done per compiler but each
compiled code has a binary signature that can be detected
and can be used to block any running on the target device.

You would be well pi$$ed off if you spent hundreds of USD
for SDKs and IDEs that will no longer be valid for Apple`s
ixxxx family of devices...

This could be the start of Apple`s demise.

Sad, because they do produce some good looking stuff.

Now there is a "nice" Windows platform for Adobe to focus on though. XP was behind the times, Vista got you laughed at, people accept Windows 7.
I don't think it's just the Adobe thing that's significant, we all know how well Adobe and Apple get on together, it's all the other cross-platform IDEs that will also be affected. It's not only the developers businesses here, of course, but also those who sell/support the IDEs.

In fairness, and thinking about it more, I see why some users would be peeved that Apple is strongarming developers into Objective C and therefore making it more work for programmers to port their apps to other platforms. That does suck. Still, Apple has -- from the start -- demanded total control over their App Store ecosystem so nothing should surprise developers now!
I don't understand what is "bad" about this. Apple is a company; its job is to make money for the shareholders. They want developers to use as much of the Apple ecosystem as possible -- Mac OS X, Xcode, Objective C and so forth. That's perfectly normal for business.

Complaining that Apple doesn't let you use Adobe tools to make iPhone apps is like going in to McDonalds and complaining that they won't make you a Whopper. If you don't like it, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Nobody is forced to use or write software for the iPhone, so there is nothing whatsoever "bad" about Apple's behaviour.

(Now, whether it's a sensible business strategy in the long term is another matter, but with the money they're raking in I wouldn't doubt them!)
From another take on the same story:

Quote:

"Crappy developers will make crappy apps regardless of how many layers there are, and it doesn’t make sense to limit source-to-source conversion tools like Unity3D and others,"

It doesn't make sense unless you want to inhibit developers from making their apps available across a variety of platforms.

Android really seems to be worrying Apple, it's doing quite well wrt sales and is clearly a challenger. Trying to put some sort of barrier between platforms is probably the only tactic Apple understands, having learnt that from Microsoft.
