I sometimes use this site to find Linux equvilents of Windows stuff:
The table of equivalents / replacements / analogs of Windows software in Linux.

For Visual Basic, it suggests the following:

Kbasic
phoenix
Hbasic
Mono

I cannot make any recommendations, though, as I have not tried any of them.

                                      Hi

I am new to Linux. I have recently been writing a MS Visual Basic program which controls a stepper motor via the PC parallel port. I now want to convert this and try the same thing in Linux. What I need to know is how do you control the individual data lines of the printer port under the Linux OS. Hopefully Linux is easier than Windows XP! Also is there a Linux equivalent of visual basic that I can use?
