I think (hope) the intention is just to use IRC to thrash out the initial details for the proposed LXFC distro... I for one will still be haunting the forums here

hahaha, anyone else find it slightly funny that LXF spent a load of cash on a decent server at last, put a lot of their own time in developing it and giving the attention it needs, then we all naff off to IRC..... did I say that out loud

To the nice people from Future, Im just kiddin, its a big improvement!

Thanks folks, think I've got to oftc.net #linuxformat using xchat. Not much time to play with it now but I'll have another go tomorrow evening.

I may soon be ready for the chat about LXFC

Simple IRC 1-2-3

1) Install XChat and run the app. Fill in the names, nick, real etc., with some FAKE names.

2) Connect to either irc.oftc.net or I am on Bunker7. Just select the relevant network and click connect. All being well you'll get connected.

3) To join a channel type "/join #<channel name>"

That is it. Learn when you are in there. In case ppl missed it, I on irc.bunker7.net port 6667 in #linuxformat

I am fairly new to this IRC stuff too, I have been practicing with my lug and through them I am squatting on a channel #thepub on the irc.oftc.net so fire up XChat and have a go.

I did a beginners tutorial on IM a loooong time ago, but it didn't go into great detail on IRC - hey, I've just had a great idea for next month's First Steps...!

Could Linux Format do an article or tutorial on actually using IRC?

I've never used it before and some of my questions are; do you need an account? do you need to register? etc. There may be more questions I need answering but since I've never used IRC I don't know what to ask.

As far as I can tell you've done plenty of IRC client roundups and hot picks, but nothing else.
