I saw a film about that with Clint Eastwood in ages ago! It was called, ingeniously enough, Escape From Alcatraz
That was a good film but an even better one about Alcatraz has got to be Bird Man Of Alcatraz. Then there was The Rock... but that was crap

                                      I love that show

Unfortunately, I never saw that feature, but I enjoyed last Sunday's with the RC police car and lethal steel rope

.. and now I've just found a use for the new DVD recorder; as "other people" in the househould prefer to watch Where The Heart Is most sundays

If anyone watches Mythbusters on Discovery channel, you may have seen the Alcatraz special. It is claim no-one ever escaped but three people tried and were never seen again nor their craft or bodies ever found.

MB proved it was possible to escape and land near the GG bridge. The craft was made from old macs (coats) and bellows made to keep the craft inflated. Their primary escape from the cells was funny. Simply because between each block ran a service alley. They tunnelled from their cells through an "air vent" into this space and then managed to get onto the roof.

Remarkable program and fascinating story.
