From what little I have read about this (see as one example http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/windows-7-64bit-home-premium-explorerexe-freeze/7220d481-a346-4423-90cd-65ec854d3373) it seems that for most people simply uninstalling the WebStorage program resolves the issue.

However, you say you have already done this so it has obviously not worked for you.

I also came across a comment somewhere during my googling around that the WebStorage program somehow corrupts Windows Explorer so it sounds more like Asus is the culprit, not Windows.

MS ships both 32/64 IE, assumed it was the browser not the shell.

Post your Application log.

Her laptop doesn't use IE. It's chrome all the way. It's WINDOWS explorer crashing, not IE.

Try the 32 bit version of IE.

Asus reinstalled. That failed. They then replaced the hard drive, but still having crashes. The guy on the phone said it was down to windows, not Asus. Further examination reveals the following cause of the crashes...

Fault Module Name: ASUSWSShellExt64.dll

This is apparently something to do with Asus webstorage. But I removed that. Any ideas or do I have to go back to fighting Asus again?

The top bar says "failed to create driver."

That is really scary It looks like a blood-and-bandages screen of Death.

It is so raw that I would guess it is a BIOS message rather than blaming Windows, much as I would enjoy blaming Windows for everything.

I am amazed that the cursor seems to have survived the melt-down.

Pre-return to manufacturer factory reset. Here are the results.

Not seen that particular screen before. Another "feature" of windows 7?

My aunt had the same issue - the crashes were still happening from the factory reset, so I thought it best to send it back as you at least want your factory reset to be working.

We did a full factory reset. Damn thing still keeps breaking. It's going back.

Funny thing though... She wanted to get her pics off. I ran mint 13 off a stick and backed all of them up in 5 minutes flat. And she still hates linux.

Probably never ever find Windows Explorer if you do that! But then it won't crash, I suppose.

Might have to do that. But then again, she's been giving me daggers using Mint 11 on an old laptop for the last 8 days. Not sure I won't wake up a la John Wayne Bobbit.

My wife's win7 laptop broke. Charger and mousepad having issues. We sent it back to comet to be fixed. It came back having been reset. Now windows explorer crashes every time she does anything. I've run all the updates.

Any ideas?
