Earlier blog entries accused me of shirking. Well, on my travels to London, I managed to have a few words with this chap here, Cal Henderson. He was giving a seminar on how the Flickr website was made and is maintained. You might think that sticking a few pictures on a webserver isn't that tricky, but what do you do when 100,000 people are trying to access it at once? What is the tradeoff between database speed and reliability? Who has the coolest username? These are the things I make it my business to find out. If you are good, I'll tell you about it someday.
