Auto erotica

Dramatic news this week. We’ve decided to add ‘Autopackage’ to the Linux Format A-Z style guide (http://linuxformat.co.uk/writers, grammar watchers!). Software in the magazine is italicised, so up until now we were using “an Autopackage file”, but we’ve decided that the technology has reached the tipping point, so to speak, and deserves to join the Roman ranks of RPM and Deb with its very own 'Autopackage'. Marvellous!

Mike points out that as we add these important clarifications to the style guide, it might be prudent to remove some of the rubbish while we’re there. Under ‘Y’, for example, we have ‘yellow’, with no notes or anything. Perhaps yellow was the former production editor’s favourite colour, and he wanted it mentioned in the A-Z just so that it didn’t get forgotten in the rush to use 'blue' and 'red' and 'a purply-mauvish colour'. Under ‘P’ is ‘Ping – the game, no caps’ – that is, no caps except for the one at the beginning of the word… And ‘O’ has ‘OK – not okay’. Well, which is OK: OK, or okay? Is okay okay? At least I know that all right is all right, or it might all fall to pieces.

I might add another couple of additions to the style guide, thinking about it. Under ‘M’ I'll add: ‘Mario 64 – italics. On no account try this, or your lunchtimes will never be free again'. Under ‘H’ I'll add: ‘Hudson, Paul – see Mario 64’. And one last one, for ‘S’: ‘Saunders, Mike – see A therapist for your gaming habit’. Are those OK, Mike?
